Uncommitted NM Calls on Dem Party Delegates and Nominee to Stand For Justice In Palestine

Uncommitted New Mexico has two responses to President Biden’s announcement to step down as the Party’s presumptive nominee for president and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement on the ticket in November:

First, the president must immediately stop all U.S. military aid to Israel and support the resumption of UNRWA funding, an immediate and unqualified ceasefire in Gaza, and Palestinian self-determination.  The administration must not delay another moment in taking these crucial steps.

Second, any person aspiring to the Party’s nomination for president must adopt these same objectives in unequivocal terms.  The nearly 13,000 Democrats who chose the UNCOMMITTED option in New Mexico’s June primary to protest the president’s support for Israel’s genocide are a living testament to the proposition that the Party’s adoption of these principles is not only the right thing to do, but also the thing to do to win in November.

“Supplying weapons to Netanyahu’s regime makes a mockery of Democrats’ claims to fight against MAGA authoritarianism and commitment to democracy and justice around the world.  It’s time to align our actions with our values and start the process to earn back voters’ trust by turning the page from Biden’s horrific policies in Gaza”  —Layla Elabed, Leader, Uncommitted National Movement, July 21, 2024.

Uncommitted New Mexico began its campaign in March of 2024, just after the Democratic Party of New Mexico adopted the Ceasefire Resolution by a 74% margin at its Pre-Primary Convention. It began with these words: “WHEREAS all human life is precious and targeting civilians, no matter their faith or ethnicity, is a violation of international humanitarian law ….”. Uncommitted New Mexico will continue its campaign of moral and political imperatives and build on it.
